the holidays

Don't rush past the memories to be made with a good vino in December. So quickly we choke down the Holidays, as if there is nothing to be savored but much to endure.

what's in a label?

I know this may seem ridiculous to the wine snobs of the world (moi), but some of my lady friends are still a bit baffled by the French wine labels. Bordeaux, Burgundy, Sancerre.....what should they expect to be drinking? Why not call it a Cab or Merlot?

somedays need champagne more than others

"I drink champagne when I am happy, and when I am sad. Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Other wise I never touch it-unless I am thirsty."
Madame Bollinger

celery root

I feel sorry for Celeriac, it's gnarly appearance does it no justice, and I want badly to do this starchy wonder some justice. Today I tore a celeriac or celery root (depending on what part of the world you're from) apart with a vegetable peeler and then a knife, dropped it into some hot butter & chopped shallots...voila, soup.

champagne lesson

I have so many wonderful stories for the week, I have recently been to Sonoma/Napa Valley (one of my favorite places in the world) with family, and enjoyed too much food and wine. I would love to share more, but this pretty much sums it up....

withered plums and molding peaches

I just logged in to Mighty Blonde and realized how boring the latest posts have been, there has been little talk of the serious things in life....wine. But there has been way too much of the mundane... obsessing on "how to cook," books, movies, AVA's, all the tip-toeing around wine but no wine. It's a bore.
